Root Canal Treatment

When a tooth becomes infected, that infection can spread into the centre of the tooth. This area is called the dental pulp. Inside of the dental pulp are the nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels.

When the pulp becomes infected it can be very painful, requiring emergency treatment.

We can perform an emergency open and drain to relieve you of the toothache.

How is root canal treatment done?

A root canal procedure works by creating a small hole in the tooth so that all of the infected pulp can be removed.

This occurs in three stages

Stage 1: Removal of the infected pulp which prevents the further spread of infection

Stage 2: Enlarging the canals to clean the area to ensure we get rid of all the infected debris

Stage3: Filling of the root canal along with the permanent filling of the tooth or a crown restoration

We have the latest technology of Rotary endodontics in our practice to do the complex root canal procedures.

Rotary endodontics involves the use of electrically powered instruments which replace the traditionally used stainless steel manual files for root canal treatment.

As the rotary files are more flexible than the manual ones, the root canal procedure is more reliable quick and comfortable.

Advantages of rotary endodontics:

  • 1. The electric tool helps in a faster and more consistent cleaning of the root canals
  • 2. There is a decreased risk of complications and injuries
  • 3. It is also a comfortable experience for the patient

We will then use a filling or crown in order to further strengthen and protect the damaged tooth. Both fillings and crowns can now be created in a tooth-color. This means that regardless of where your infected tooth is located, a crown can be used, and it will blend in nicely with the surrounding teeth.

Why should I have a root canal treatment?

If it appears that a root canal is the best option, we will make this recommendation. If not, we will present a treatment solution that will solve the problem eg. an extraction or removal of a tooth.

A root canal treatment is extremely effective for saving damaged teeth by removing any infection that may be there. This single treatment makes it possible teeth to be saved and once it is completed; eating and drinking becomes easy again.

What is the recovery time after having a root canal procedures?

Patients take about three days to recover after a root canal procedure. Some patients require a week to recover from a root canal procedure.

What care is required after a root canal procedure?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should not eat until the numbness wears off. They should not eat or drink very hot or very cold food for at least a week. They should avoid eating hard food or sticky food.
