Crown and Bridge

A crown is a permanent restoration to restore teeth which are not amenable to fillings or have undergone root canal treatment.

They look like a hollow shell which is placed over a prepared natural tooth.

They completely cover the visible portion of the tooth above the gumline.

What are the advantages of a crown?

  • 1. They restore your chewing efficiency and ability to speak as they replace all missing teeth.
  • 2. They protect weak teeth, restore broken teeth, prevent cracked teeth from breaking further, and support teeth that have large fillings.
  • 3. They restore the appearance, shape and alignment of damaged teeth.

Types of crowns can be categorised according to the material they are made of:

  • 1. Metal
  • 2. Ceramic
  • 3. Porcelain fused to metal
  • 4. Stainless steel

Is a crown necessary after root canal treatment ?

A crown reinforces the tooth structure after root canal treatment. It restores tooth function and aesthetics.

Although adding a dental crown is not necessary after every root canal procedure, all root canal procedures need some sort of tooth reinforcement.

Bridges are a replacement solution that have been recommended by the conventional dentistry for a long time.

Bridgework, as it’s name suggests is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap: these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth and a false tooth/teeth in between are called pontics. They can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.

What are the advantages of Dental Bridges ?

  • 1.Restore aesthetics and your smile
  • 2.Restore the ability to chew and speak properly
  • 3.Distribute the loading forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth
  • 4.Prevent remaining teeth from migrating or drifting out of position
  • 5.Maintain the shape of your face

What does a dental bridge cost ?

There are many variables that can affect the price including:

  • 1.Number of teeth to be replaced.
  • 2.Materials used, such as composite resin, zirconia, or metal alloy.
  • 3.Complexity/difficulty of the placement.
  • 4.Additional treatments for other dental issues, such as Gum Disease.
  • 5.Strategic location

How long does it take to get a bridge done?

Dental bridges are mostly two-visit procedures, and each visit lasts about an hour to two hours. The dentist shapes the adjacent teeth during the first appointment and places the bridge in the second appointment.
