Temporomandibular joint is a hinge joint that connects your jaw to your skull. There is one joint on each side of the jaw. Since the TMJ is connected to the mandible, both the right and the left joints must function together.
They work together when you chew, speak or swallow.
They include muscles and ligaments, as well as the mandible (lower jaw) .They control the mandible as it moves forwards, backwards and side-to-side.
