Gum disease or periodontal disease is an infection of the supporting structures or tissues that hold the teeth in place.
It is caused by plaque- a biofilm of bacteria that gets deposited over teeth.
Signs and symptoms include swollen bleeding gums, spacing between teeth, bad breath, mobile teeth, receding gums due to bone loss around teeth.
We will need to examine your teeth and may take radigraphs( x rays). You will be given a professional clean and oral hygiene instructions.
Sometimes, you may require a referral to a gum specialist( Periodontist).
